Artist Statement
Driven by the exploration of the concept of all things being interconnected, Sarah Barker’s artwork is made up of simple multiple forms creating a larger whole experience.
The chosen marks relate to our most gut level intuition about existence. Simple primal instincts and reactions of layered information are processed into complexities and networks.
An intent of a spiritual connection through intuition, influences the overall journey the artwork will take, and the forms that arise, creating a timeless universal connection.
The influences of the social political world around us play a part in the art works as a springboard for the relationship to the here and now.
This is often represented by the use of iconographic forms, color and texture. The iconographic forms relate from ancient in origin, to pop culture, and from nature to nurture.
The paintings are a combination of high technology and old world methods.
The materials include synthetic polymers in which ground and dispersed pigment. They are sometimes mixed along with fillers such as abrasives or textures.
A variety of surfaces such as wood, canvas, steel or paper are used giving a different feel to each piece.
